Although there is controversy surrounding females
in the fire service doing calendars and posters, we are all women of today, strong, and wearing many hats. We are
Firefighters, Paramedics, Engineers, in the ranks, and hold specialty certifications, all of which play an important part
in the fire service. We are wives, girlfriends, mothers, sisters, friends, and athletes. Role models for
women of today, from all walks of life, and yes---even sex symbols. We are paving the way, in a male dominated field,
and accept that there are certain levels of unfavoritism. That, in and of itself, is what makes us stronger, and proud
to be walking the walk.
Although Smokin' Hot does not currently have a calendar in print, we are proud
to support Houston Firefighter Heather, with her 2010 Pipes and Drums shift calendar poster. Heather is a Smokin' Hot
Veteran, as Miss July, 2009. She was featured in the article that was written, on Fire Critic.com. Proceeds from
sales of the poster benefit the Houston Fire Department Pipes and Drums group. (www.hfdpipes.com)

Safety tips
to remember to help avoid a fire in your home: Never
use an extension chord as a permanent chord. Change your smoke detector batteries when you change your clocks. Never
leave a burning candle unattended. Have an exit drill in place for your family, in case of a fire. Keep a fire
extinguisher handy, in your home. Know two ways out of each room in your home. Test your smoke detectors
once a month. Teach your children to Stop, Drop, and Roll and how to 'stay low, and go'
